GALAPAGOS

THE ARCHIPELAGO

A once-in-a-lifetime journey begins when you fly from the South American continent to the middle of the Ecuadorian pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean — especially if you land in Santa Cruz, the main island out of the 127 in the archipelago, to be based in Montemar. The Galapagos was designated a Natural World Heritage site and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve because there’s no other place like it on Earth. A true spectacle of wildlife is going on every second, and it’s easy to watch the show on land or underwater, in the Galapagos Marine Reserve. The better it gets the more time you allow yourself to experience this transformative journey.

SANTA CRUZ ISLAND

Located on Santa Cruz Island, on the way from Baltra Airport to the city of Puerto Ayora, Montemar Eco Luxury Villas is hidden in nature up in the hill in the heart of the Galapagos Giant Tortoises Territory, the natural migration path of these prehistoric animals. Santa Cruz is also home to beautiful Tortuga Bay, with its pristine beaches, huge cacti and palo santo trees, alongside surreal lava tunnels and creeks. In Puerto Ayora, the most structured city of the archipelago, there are restaurants, shops and cultural centers like Charles Darwin Station and the Galapagos National Park Center (to learn the story of the famous ‘Lonesome George’).

WILDLIFE

Every nature lover has to visit the Galapagos Islands at least once. This live museum hosts an incredible variety of wildlife that includes the Galapagos giant tortoises, for which the islands are named, and which live in the vicinity of Montemar Eco Luxury Villas. Lots of sea turtles, reptiles and fishes, the land iguanas and the marine iguanas — which seem like tiny cousins of dinosaurs — also live here. Do you like birds? We have blue-footed and red-footed boobies, frigate, flamingos and 45 endemic species that can be seen on many trails. Or just take one of our boat tours to contemplate penguins, dolphins, rays, sea lions, sharks… and much more.

OTHER ISLANDS

About 1,000 kilometers from continental Ecuador, the Galapagos archipelago is formed by 19 large islands, but only four of them are inhabited. Santa Cruz Island, where Montemar Eco Luxury Villas is located, is the main one. You can set sail from its port, Puerto Ayora, to other beautiful islands like Santa Fe, Bartolome, Plazas and North Seymour, just to name a few, each with its own surprising wildlife. We work with a small selection of the finest yachts to visit the islands, either shared or on a charter basis. Montemar provides amazing aquatic experiences in comfort, taking you back safe and sound to spend the night on land at your Villa.
