How can I get to Montemar?
Seymour Airport (GPS), on Baltra Island, is the main airport to fly to the Galapagos Islands. From there, upon scheduling, our staff can pick up the guests for the transfer to Santa Cruz Island. Montemar is located in the neighborhood of El Carmen, a 20-minute drive from the port of Puerto Ayora and the city center.
How many days should I spend in Montemar?
We recommend a minimum stay of five nights in order to experience the best of Santa Cruz Island by land and some of the other amazing islands by boat.
When should I travel to the Galapagos?
The Galapagos is fascinating all year-long, with different peak times for contemplating the local fauna.
The period between December and May has warmer weather, but the second semester tends to be drier.
During the winter in the Southern Hemisphere (June to August), it’s nice to see many species mating.
Peak season is Easter, Christmas and New Year. Please be sure to book in advance to join us on these busy holidays.
How is the weather in the islands?
Weather on the Galapagos is strongly influenced by ocean currents. There are two distinctive seasons:
– The warm and at times rainy season extends from mid-December to May. Temperatures fluctuate between 85⁰F and 60⁰F (30⁰C – 15⁰C) on a daily basis. This season is characterized by sporadic heavy showers from December to March and is usually followed by very sunny, dry weather the rest of the season.
– The garúa season stretches from mid-May to mid-December. Temperatures range from 78⁰F to 55⁰F (26⁰C – 13⁰C). It’s characterized by less sunny days and an intermittent mist or drizzle that falls mostly on the southern and central islands on their south side, creating a rain shadow effect that keeps the northern coasts sunnier. It is influenced by the southern trade winds and Humboldt Current, which comes directly from the Antarctic, bringing milder weather.
What should I bring in my luggage?
This is our suggested packing list for a typical five-night stay at Montemar. Please calculate the items according to your stay:
o Lightweight, breathable, waterproof rain jacket with hood.
o Warm fleece
o Sneakers or lightweight hikers
o Sporty sandals (Tevas, Chacos, Keens, etc.)
o Small, water resistant or waterproof day pack
o Sun hat with brim
o Cool/warm sleepwear
o Binoculars (if you’re a birdwatching enthusiast)
o 1-2 pairs of comfortable lightweight pants
o 1-2 long sleeve shirts

Please keep in mind that nights and early mornings at Montemar can be cool and chilly. Make sure to bring a few light layers just in case.
It is commonly hot and humid at sea level and during our excursions. As such, it is highly recommended to bring clothing made of synthetic, quick-drying material. Cotton pieces that have gotten wet from seawater or sweat may not always dry completely.
.Is the internet available at Montemar?
Yes. Montemar offers the fastest internet service available on the Galapagos, which is a Starlink service, free of charge for our guests. But please be aware that service on the islands may not be as fast as at your home. The best connection here is with nature 😉
What is the electricity voltage in Montemar?
Montemar runs 100% on solar energy. Our electricity supply operates at 120v 60Hz. The power sockets at our accommodations are types A and B, which allow the use of two flat pin plugs. It’s the same as in the U.S., so American visitors won’t normally require an adapter or transformer for appliances like battery chargers.
What facilities are available in the rooms?
With super-comfortable installations — which is something rare in real sustainable projects, all the rooms have ceiling fans, high-quality cotton linen bedding, pillows, bathrobes, hair dryer, safety deposit box, biodegradable luxury shampoos, beach towels, yoga props, luffa sponges and water bottles.
Is there laundry service in Montemar?
Yes. There is a laundry bag provided in each room. The cost is $25 per bag.
Can I smoke in Montemar Villas?
Smoking is not permitted in Galapagos National Park nor in Montemar. You can smoke outside on any deck, but not inside the Villas.
